Although this exhibition is inhabiting many forms, including conceptual art, my approach to all of it is that of a painter. The distinction, for me, is this:
A conceptual artist, at least in the classic Sol Lewitt-ian sense, conceives of an idea, wrestles with it in their mind, and then executes that plan. A painter, on the other hand, allows an idea to evolve through the act of making. There is an inherent call and responsiveness here, a snowball rolling down a bumpy hill.
